Gone Home dev announces road trip adventure Open Roads
Uncover your granny's big secret.
Annapurna Interactive and Fullbright, the studio behind the award-winning Gone Home and Tacoma, have announced Open Roads, the studio's first new game since 2017. In Open Roads the 16 year-old Tess, voiced by Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) is going on a road trip with her mum Opal (Keri Russell, The Americans) to learn more about the secret life her grandmother seems to have led.
OPEN ROADS is the next game from Fullbright, the award-winning creators of acclaimed story games Gone Home and Tacoma. Starring Keri Russell and Kaitlyn Dever. Coming soon to consoles and PC. Wishlist now on Steam: https://t.co/GSZnAW34NH pic.twitter.com/GxGS4EqYCCDecember 11, 2020
This is Fullbright's first game that doesn't seem to take place in first-person perspective, instead using a striking mix of 2D character design that reminds me of 90s adventure games and 3D environments. Given Fullbright's penchant for great storytelling and Annapurna's reputation of backing interesting projects, this is certainly one to watch.
Previous Fullbright games were all self-published, and after Tacoma failed to replicate Gone Home's success, I was worried for a while about what was next. If you haven't yet, give Tacoma a go while you're waiting for Open Roads, which exemplifies Fullbright's knack for character writing: we even gave it an award for best setting back in 2017.
