Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst reintroduces us to a visually stunning dystopian future city of Glass in which huge corporations control everyone’s daily lives through technology that constantly monitors the various social strata and links everyone through digital networks. There is a small group of individuals, however, who refuse to live such a controlled existence and exist outside the system, living on the rooftops and earning a living by carrying out covert deliveries using nothing more than their athleticism and determination including our protagonist, Faith.
Catalyst is a more ambitious project than the original game, though, and its sprawling and beautiful open-world city offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.
To really take full advantage of Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst’s lusciously detailed visuals on PC you can upgrade your GPU to a new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 or 1070 GPU. Using the raw grunt and 8GB framebuffer of the next-gen GTX 10 series every graphical element of the game is enhanced including detail, shadow quality, reflections, lighting and motion blur among many others, all of which collectively are classed as “Hyper” settings.
These aren’t the only advantages a GTX 1080 or 1070 GPU brings to the Catalyst experience. By rocking a GTX 10 series GPU you’ll also be able to enable next-gen graphical features like G-SYNC, Dynamic Super Resolution, GeForce Experience Optimal Playable Settings, GeForce Experience ShadowPlay, and GeForce Experience Share to further improve your experience, and to share your favorite moments with friends.
Given the open-world nature of Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst’s environment, Faith’s abilities are also greater than those seen in the previous game. As she leaps, swings, climbs and slides her way around the city using her free-running skills, Faith can also use momentum to perform greater jumps and slide through gaps. She can also use a new shift move to temporarily boost her speed. Her new quickturn enables her to rapidly execute a 90 or 180 degree turn. Traversing the large, open areas of the city can be achieved by using ziplines and environmental surfaces, but now Faith also has a MAG Rope gadget that she can attach to mobile CCTV cameras and hitch a ride.
