- More E3 2021 games
There was no physical E3 in Los Angeles this year, but E3 2021 went ahead anyway as an all-digital event.
After a few pre-E3 streams (which we're including as part of it), E3 proper started Saturday, June 12, with Ubisoft, Devolver, the Guerrilla Collective, and other shows. On Sunday we saw Xbox & Bethesda, Square Enix and the Future Games Show as well as our own PC Gaming Show.
As each day of E3 heaved a new bucket of trailers and announcements at us, we caught as many as we could in this big list. For our complete coverage of the big announcements, check our news feed and our roundup of the biggest news out of E3 2021.
Age of Empires 4
What is it? The return of an RTS classic
When's it out? October 28
What did we see at E3? A cinematic with Joan of Arc, and some gameplay reminiscent of the fondly remembered Age of Empires 2. There were war elephants, French knights, trebuchets, camel-mounted archers, a naval battle, and walls that will hopefully have those gates you could open and close by clicking on them.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, and it'll be available immediately on Xbox Game Pass for PC
The Anacrusis
What is it? A Left 4 Dead style cooperative shooter, but with a sci-fi theme (so aliens instead of zombies) and a lovely bright art style
When’s it out? Fall 2021 (or Spring in Australia)
What did we see at E3? Just the announcement trailer embedded above, which is pretty generously packed with gameplay footage. Wes got to spend a bit of time with the creators (former Valve and Riot devs have teamed up for this one), which you can read about over here.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, both to Steam and Epic Games Store.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
What is it? An action-adventure horror set in 14 century France with lots and lots of rats. The sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? The trailer shows the return of Amicia and her brother Hugo who are a little older and wiser as they sneak their way through an oppressively grim world. Little is shown of gameplay but there are scenes of death, horror, and a literal sea of rats. Lovely.
Is it coming to PC? Yes and Xbox Game Pass at launch
Atomic Heart
What is it? The Soviet sci-fi FPS we're all waiting for
When's it out? TBA
What did we see at E3? A glorious minute of madness. Sinister robots, one with a head full of fruit. Frozen explosions. Cybernetic implants. Lightning powers. Levitation. A babushka with a soup ladle. It looks incredible.
Is it coming to PC? Steam
The biggest gaming news, reviews and hardware deals
Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.
Babylon's Fall
What is it? A stylish live-service action game from Platinum Games
When is it out? We don't know
What did we see at E3? More gameplay footage backed by soaring orchestrals, as expected. Lots of combat, which can be played solo or in groups of up to four, and some incongruous philosophizing over the top. Platinum Games has an excellent track record with this kind of thing. They have a lot to live up to but not a lot to prove.
Is it coming to PC? Yes! It'll be on Steam
Back 4 Blood
What is it? Turtle Rock Studios return to the Left 4 Dead well with another four-player co-op zombie FPS
When's it out? October 12
What did we see at E3? Back 4 Blood's baddies are called the Ridden, and among the hordes being machine-gunned and grenaded in the latest trailer we saw some of the larger variants. There's a lumpy fellow with glowing insides, an eyeless leech-mouthed thing, and a kaiju-sized beast with terrible dental hygiene. We also saw there's going to be an open beta beginning August 5, and a PvP showcase on June 13.
Is it coming to PC? It's on Steam and Epic
Battlefield 2042
What is it? A near-future Battlefield which increases match size to 128 players and introduces specialists with gadgets (kind of like Rainbow Six Siege operators, but they can carry any gun)
When's it out? October 22
What did we see at E3? The reveal preempted E3: You can watch the first trailer above, and read tons of Battlefield 2042 details here. There's no singleplayer and no battle royale mode in this one, but there are a couple mystery modes we'll learn about in the future. We'll see the first gameplay trailer during E3 proper on Sunday, June 13, and then we'll see more in July at EA Play Live.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, it'll release on Steam, Epic Games Store, Origin
Chernobylite
What is it? A first-person survival-horror RPG set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Think Stalker, but smaller and weirder.
When's it out? In Early Access now, full release coming on July 28
What did we see at E3? Igor and the gang bust into a dilapidated power plant, although it's not clear why: Perhaps to find the strange green substance known as chernobylite, perhaps to locate the woman named Tatyana, or maybe for something else entirely.
Is it coming to PC? You better Chernobylieve it, on Steam, GOG, and Epic.
Citizen Sleeper
What is it? A dice placement game like Dicey Dungeons or Tharsis
When's it out? 2022.
What did we see at E3? Damn, this looks stylish. You play a Sleeper, a worker on a massive, bustling space station full of bars, markets, docks, and seedy underbellies. Every cycle you're woken up to do various jobs, but you also get a chance to escape as well.
Is it coming to PC? Yep.
Contraband
What is it? A 1970s open-world cop-op smuggling game from the Just Cause team
When's it out? TBA
What did we see at E3? The trailer doesn't give too much away but what we see is a cluttered hideout where we see a muddy car, junk everywhere, and what looks like some plans to steal a chest.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, including Game Pass
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
What is it? Another interactive horror movie from the folks who brought us previous Dark Pictures games like The Man of Medan
When's it out? October 22
What did we see at E3? A story trailer and release date. This Dark Picture is set in Iraq in 2003, and follows a group of American soldiers who tumble into a Sumerian temple underground. Trapped in the dark, they're hunted by bat creatures, though they do have guns. Will bullets be effective against the monsters? Ha ha, doubt it.
Is it coming to PC? Like the previous Dark Pictures games, yes.
Death Trash
What is it? Open-ended old school RPG
When's it out? Enters Early Access on August 5
What did we see at E3? Death Trash will let us create our own pixelated punk with skills like stealth, animalism, and puking. Then explore a post-apocalyptic world with cosmic horrors and a lot of meat, solving problems any way we choose. It's like the early Fallout games but with real-time combat and even more gore.
Is it coming to PC? It's vomited up a Steam page already
Diablo 2: Resurrected
What is it? Blizzard's classic action-RPG in modern resolutions, running at 60 fps
When's it out? September 23, 2021
What did we see at E3? Our first look at the newly recreated cinematics, which sure are shiny. Otherwise, in spite of the graphical improvements, it's still good old Diablo 2 as we remember it. We also found out multiplayer beta will take place in August.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Elden Ring
What is it? From Software's dark fantasy collab with Game of Thrones author George RR Martin
When's it out? January 21, 2022
What did we see at E3? Praise the sun: Geoff Keighley didn't let us down, and we saw the first gameplay trailer and got a release date.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Elex 2
What is it? In the sequel to Piranha Bytes' 2017 open-world RPG Elex, you must once again unite the free people of Magalan against a new threat - the Skyanides.
When's it out? Coming soon
What did we see at E3? "The most videogame-ass videogame trailer" we, and likely you, have seen in a long time, with angry, stubbled blokes gurning over heavy metal riffs, hurling purple swords and fireballs at a horde of snarling, faceless monsters. The game itself seems somewhat more conventional: The hero, Jax, must unite the factions against a looming threat in a "huge, hand-crafted" post-apocalyptic science-fantasy world. Oh, and find his son, too.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, on Steam.
Endless Dungeon
What is it? Tower defense action for up to three players. You protect crystals from alien bugs on a space station
When's it out? TBA
What did we see at E3? A gameplay trailer emphasizing the die-and-try-again nature of this cartoonish sci-fi roguelike from Amplitude, the makers of the Endless series. Yes, Endless Dungeon is being made by the same people who made Dungeon of the Endless, Endless Space, and Endless Legend, but now they've gone real-time. It seems kind of like an isometric Sanctum.
Is it coming to PC? Endless Dungeon will be on Steam
Evil Dead: The Game
What is it? What else could an official Evil Dead game be, but a cooperative zombie slayer reminiscent of Left 4 Dead?
When’s it out? It’s coming in 2021—exactly when is yet to be confirmed
What did we see at E3? The reveal trailer above was shown during the Summer Game Fest. In addition to revealing all the key facts and a very lifelike Bruce Campbell, it shows off some grim horror environments fairly reminiscent of Friday the 13th: The Game. Morgan has the full rundown on the four-player melee co-op game here: he liked the look of it.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, but a storefront is yet to be confirmed.
Far Cry 6
What is it? Giancarlo Esposito is an evil dad and you need to go shoot lots of his henchmen in lush, outdoor environments
When's it out? October 7
What did we see at E3? One of those villain speeches where the bad guy is charismatically menacing at a group of people
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Far Cry 6 Season Pass
What is it? The stuff you get with Far Cry 6's Gold, Ultimate and Collector's Edition
When's it out? October 7
What did we see at E3? DLC will let you play as three of the series' signature villains: Vaas Montenegro from Far Cry 3, Pagan Min from Far Cry 4, and Joseph Seed from Far Cry 5. They seem to be in some kind of surreal afterlife? Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon comes with it too.
Is it coming to PC? Yep
Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger of Paradise
What is it? A Team Ninja spectacle fighter with a Final Fantasy haircut
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? Three heroes who are out to kill chaos. The lead is an angry man who has some kind of red crystal power, and he hates chaos. The villain is chaos. Every third word, said in ludicrous anime dub voice, is chaos.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
What is it? The first six Final Fantasy games, remastered in a way that preserves their original art style
When's it out? "Coming soon"
What did we see at E3? Not much. What we did see leads us to expect a collection that abandons the makeover the Final Fantasy games were given for mobile, and which the PC ports kept much to the dismay of fans.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, Steam
Forza Horizon 5
What is it? A very pretty game about driving cars real fast. This time the series is heading to Mexico
When's it out? November 9, 2021
What did we see at E3? Lots of shiny cars going real fast in picturesque environments. The trailer for Forza Horizon 5 is one of the prettiest yet with some huge dust storms, lush vegetation, and volcanic scenes. Combined with the new ray-tracing lighting tech and super detailed photogrammetry textures, Forza is looking real fine. Like, real fine.
Is it coming to PC? As with all Microsoft games, it'll be there day one on Xbox Game Pass
Gloomwood
What is it? A stealth game that's basically Thief: The Dark Project with a canesword and gun
When's it out? TBA, but it can't come soon enough
What did we see at E3? Five atmospheric minutes of alpha gameplay. Gloomwood is a true immersive sim, with features we love to see like a diegetic inventory and systems that let you distract opponents to sneak past them, or get the drop on them and do a gory murder. Tick a few other things off the bingo card while you're at it: leaning animations, bodies you can pick up, and loud footsteps.
Is it coming to PC? Absolutely
Guerrilla Collective: 70 + games
What is it? Not a game, but many games. Indie showcase Guerrilla Collective didn't hold back on Saturday, showing an enormous selection of new trailers. We collected over 70 of them in a separate article. (And at the end of that list, there's a link to even more games shown at the Wholesome Direct stream.)
Halo Infinite Multiplayer
What is it? The free-to-play multiplayer "experience" tied to Halo Infinite
When's it out? Holiday 2021
What did we see at E3? A fun look at the silliness of multiplayer matches, confirming that Halo Infinite Multiplayer will have grappling hooks, and will bring back the gravity hammer, energy sword, familiar vehicles, the Oddball, sticky frag grenades, and the announcer.
Is it coming to PC? Uh-huh
Hideo Kojima's new game
What is it? The most solid thing we know about Kojima’s next game, which was teased at the Summer Game Fest, is that it won’t be a sequel to Death Stranding
When’s it out? Probably not for a long time
What did we see at E3? Just Kojima teasing the project, which is unnamed. Asked by Geoff Keighley about what’s next, Kojima replied: "I can't really say specifically. It won't be like the past, it won't be one step at a time. [The pandemic] is a drastic change, just like after 9/11: We have to adapt and think about new ways of creating as entertainment can't fall behind.” More details here.
Is it coming to PC? No word as yet, but Death Stranding did
Icarus
What is it? Session-based survival game set on a dangerous alien planet
When's it out? August 11, 2021
What did we see at E3? A new trailer featuring some of the biomes on Icarus, including the forest, alpine, and desert areas. The trailer also highlighted some of the transplanted Earth animals like bears and wolves, and the threat of extreme storms which can destroy your bases.
Is it coming to PC? Steam
Immortality
What is it? Sam Barlow's next game.
When's it out? 2022.
What did we see at E3? Very little! It's about a missing actor who starred in three movies that were never released, and it's from the creator of Her Story and Telling Lies (with help from a few TV writers). Given Barlow's involvement we're expecting a live-action puzzle mystery that involves scrubbing through footage.
Is it coming to PC? Steam.
Ixion
What is it? Space station management sim from the creators of Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? An introduction to the future of Ixion, in which humanity creates an ark to leave the Earth and things go rather wrong. As the captain of Tycoon Station we'll be making hard decisions, researching technology, exploring the galaxy, and trying to keep our crew alive. It's a bit like Frostpunk in space.
Is it coming to PC? Steam
Jurassic World Evolution 2
What is it? It’s an amusement park simulator, except the amusement park has dinosaurs, which naturally comes with some fairly unique problems and stresses, including looking after them
When’s it out? 2021
What did we see at E3? The game was announced during the Summer Games Fest, and what we got was the trailer above. The game looks much prettier than its predecessor and seems to boast a much larger scale. According to the Steam page it has a “new narrative campaign,” new dinosaurs, and deeper management and creative tools.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, to both Steam and Epic Games Store
Koch Media's Prime Matter
What is it? Prime Matter is a "premium gaming label" owned by Koch Media, who already own publishers like Deep Silver. Prime Matter has signed a new Painkiller game, Payday 3, King's Bounty 2, Mount and Blade II: Bannerlords, and the next game by Kingdom Come Deliverance studio Warhorse. They also announced Crossfire: Legion, Scars Above, Codename Final Form, Gungrave G.O.R.E., Dolmen, The Last Oricru, Echoes of the End, The Chant, and Encased.
Lego Builder's Journey
What is it? Monument Valley, but Lego
When's it out? June 22
What did we see at E3? If you're the kind of person who complains that the Lego games are all about smashing Lego instead of making things with it, this charming puzzle adventure seems like it's for you.
Is it coming to PC? Two years after its mobile release, it's coming to Steam
Lemnis Gate
What is it? A multiplayer time-loop FPS
When is it out? August 3
What did we see at E3? A new trailer and an interview with the developer. Lemnis Gate is a tough game to explain—each of your operators has 25 seconds to run around the map working toward their objective, then they get looped. You layer another copy of that operator in each time. So does your opponent. In one loop, maybe they throw a grenade. In the next, you intercept them before they get a chance. The base mode gives each player 10 loops, which sounds like enough for things to get chaotic.
Is it coming to PC? It's in the PC Gaming Show so it better be! There's an open beta coming in July; here's a Steam page
Life is Strange: True Colors
What is it? The third main series Life is Strange game, focusing on Alex, a psychic empath on the trail of a killer
When is it out? September 10
What did we see at E3? A deeper look at how the enhanced empathy will work. Focusing on characters with glowing auras lets us hear their thoughts, which can unlock new dialogue options. Some characters have auras that can trigger novas, which let Alex see a reshaped reality that's altered by their feelings and exploring these dreamlike spaces can let her resolve them.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Loot River
What is it? An action-roguelike that is apparently "like Diablo and Tetris had a baby"
When's it out? TBA
What did we see at E3? A gameplay trailer and commentary by Miro Straka of straka.studio. It looks rad. You travel along an underworld river with a beaky plague doctor mask and a slow but powerful sword swing, but the coolest thing in your arsenal is the ability to make island platforms you're standing on slam around at speed. Also, those islands are Tetris blocks. And some of them have spikes.
Is it coming to PC? It's got a Steam page, so yeah
Lost Ark
What is it? Enormously popular in Korea, Lost Ark is a free-to-play MMO that borrows heavily from the slash and loot approach of Diablo, and Amazon is releasing it in English
When’s it out? This fall
What did we see at E3? Just the trailer above and a few words from Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann, who also confirmed a new Amazon Games studio led by John Smedley, formerly of Daybreak. Lost Ark offers up a suite of 15 customizable character classes, and a wild blend of high fantasy and sci-fi (you’ll be slaughtering robots and fairies in this one... poor fairies).
Is it coming to PC? Exclusively, baby. Beta sign-ups are available here.
Marvel's Guardian's of the Galaxy
What is it? Singleplayer superhero shenanigans in which you are Star-Lord
When's it out? October 26
What did we see at E3? A debut trailer and a deep dive confirming that this is not a live-service game and won't have microtransactions or DLC. Instead, it's a narrative action game where you get to jet-boot around as Star-Lord, calling on the other Guardians when you need their special abilities. It's drawing from the movies and the comics, and no, you don't get to look like Chris Pratt.
Is it coming to PC? Yup
Metal Slug Tactics
What is it? Pixel-art squad tactics in the Metal Slug universe
When's it out? TBA
What did we see at E3? A hell of a surprise. The Metal Slug series of run-and-gun anime sidescrollers are back, in turn-based tactics form. The reveal trailer shows Metal Slug characters throwing grenades, calling in air strikes, demolishing scenery, and performing "sync" attack combos. If Gears of War can become a strategy game, maybe any series can do it.
Is it coming to PC? It's got a Steam page
Mechajammer
What is it? An turn-based tactical isometric RPG/immersive sim set on an "offworld grindhouse jungle colony."
When's it out? "Coming soon"
What did we see at E3? A new trailer showcased the state of the game, in development since 2016, with combat, conversations, vehicles, a sweet synthwave soundtrack, and a dark, grimy pixel-art world inspired by the classic action/sci-fi films of the 1980s. If John Carpenter made PS2 games, they might look like this.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, it's currently available for wishlisting on Steam
Microsoft Flight Simulator DLC
What is it? Everyone's favourite virtual piloting sim is getting some free top Gun-themed DLC
When's it out? July 27, 2021
What did we see at E3? In true Flight Sim fashion, the trailer shows a bunch of new planes flying majestically through a variety of gorgeous scenery, including some from the Top Gun movie. It also seems you'll be able to take off and land on aircraft carriers at sea, putting your touchdowns to the ultimate test.
Is it coming to PC? Yep
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
What is it? A sequel to the original Monster Hunter Stories offshoot, which adds a monster collecting twist to the formula
When’s it out? July 9, 2021
What did we see at E3? Just the trailer above, which was shown during the Summer Game Fest. It sets the scene for the forthcoming RPG, and also reveals the (surprisingly imminent) release date.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, the Steam page is already up
Orcs Must Die! 3
What is it? The latest in Robot Entertainment's third-person tower defense series.
When's it out? It's out on Stadia already, and will arrive on Steam on July 23.
What did we see at E3? We learned that the Steam version will have all the features of the Stadia one, like War Scenarios and Mountable War Machines, plus some new ones.
Is it coming to PC? What did I just say? Honestly.
The Outer Worlds 2
What is it? The sequel to Obsidian's corporate-satire sci-fi RPG
When's it out? No clue
What did we see at E3? A parody of videogame trailers that's funnier than most of the jokes in the first Outer Worlds were. But it didn't leave us with much to go on. The description did hold a few clues: "New solar system, new crew, same Outer Worlds," it reads.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
The PC Gaming Show
What is it? Our annual showcase of all things PC gaming returned with 39 new videos, game announcements, and interviews. We got a closer look at Dying Light 2, a new trailer from Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, a short appearance by Valve, and we heard from New Blood, Frontier, Fellow Traveller, Tripwire Interactive, Humble Games, and more.
Pioner
What is it? A Russian sci-fi FPS with more of those Stalker vibes we love
When's it out? TBA
What did we see at E3? Extremely Russian survival-shooter oddness. Pioner is set on an island full of strange creatures and a floating lady with glowing eyes, and seems like a nice place to sit around the campfire playing guitar. It's got a singleplayer campaign as well as co-op and a more open multiplayer.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Psychonauts 2
What is it? The long-awaited follow-up to one of the quirkiest and most beloved platformers in PC gaming history
When's it out? August 25, 2021
What did we see at E3? Raz exploring more of the weird and wacky worlds that exist inside of his friends' subconscious minds. It's pretty silly, which is what we want from Psychonauts. The release date is the big news of course.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, and it'll be on Game Pass
Rainbow Six Extraction
What is it? A co-op Rainbow Six Siege spin-off where you're completing objectives while fighting off gooey aliens
When's it out? 2021
What did we see at E3? The big reveal happened at Ubisoft's conference, and, surprise, we've played it ourselves: Our video preview is embedded above, and you can read Morgan's thoughts on Extraction here.
Is it coming to PC? Yep
Redfall
What is it? The new game from Arkane. It's about vampires
When's it out? Summer 2022
What did we see at E3? A slick cinematic full of banter introducing four vampire hunters and their abilities. Redfall will be playable solo or in co-op, and early signs point to a Left 4 Dead vibe, with a bit of Overwatch in the mix.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Red Solstice 2: Survivors
What is it? Real-time XCOM with multiplayer.
When's it out? June 17.
What did we see at E3? The series that began as a StarCraft mod returns. You control a squad of soldiers fighting mutants on Mars, ordering them around in real-time—although it does seem like the action slows down a little when you bring up the command wheel. There's also a co-op mode that lets up to eight players work together, each controlling an individual soldier.
Is it coming to PC? It's on Steam right now.
Replaced
What is it? A 2.5D cyberpunk action platformer where you've been downloaded into someone else's body
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? For a game with such a surreal premise, Replaced has an absolutely gorgeous trailer. Not much is given away but it shows a man waking up after being downloaded into a stranger, and what follows is a string of broody post-apocalyptic cutaways: abandoned buildings, a savage fight in an old tube station, and a shootout in a decrepit mansion.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Riders Republic
What is it? An MMO follow up to Steep featuring mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, wingsuit flying, and some terrifying activity called "rocket wingsuiting"
When's it out? September 2
What did we see at E3? We got the release date, and the big, narrated look at the game embedded above. It looks fun!
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Rocksmith+
What is it? The rhythm game that teaches you to play real guitar/bass returning as a subscription service
When's it out? This summer
What did we see at E3? While Rocksmith+ will still support cable connection, you'll also be able to use a mobile app. And instead of DLC, the subscription will net you a growing catalogue of music.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, and you can register for a closed beta now
Salt and Sacrifice
What is it? A sequel to Salt & Sanctuary, a gorgeous 2D Metroidvania which borrowed heavily from the Dark Souls series
When’s it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida announced Salt and Sacrifice during the Summer Games Fest. The trailer shows off some gameplay that appears fairly in keeping with what fans of the original will expect, though the action does look a tad faster than before, and online and local cooperative play is supported.
Is it coming to PC? It was only confirmed for PS4 and PS5, but it probably will
Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life
What is it? A Sea of Thieves update that introduces Captain Jack Sparrow and other Pirates of the Caribbean characters into your pirate crew
When's it out? June 22, 2021
What did we see at E3? A trailer showcasing what you and witty Jack will be getting up to. Mostly fighting lots of angry mermaids with sharp teeth and legions of spooky undead pirates.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Shredders
What is it? An open-world multiplayer snowboarding game
When's it out? December 2021
What did we see at E3? The trailer is pretty minimal but showcases some rad snowboarding down snowy peaks. When you launch your board off a ramp you can do some tricks in the air, as well as racing other players.
Is it coming to PC? We're not entirely sure Shredders will be on PC—the trailer and official site only mention it's coming to Xbox
Sifu
What is it? A singleplayer kung fu brawler from the creators of Absolver.
When’s it out? Fall 2021
What did we see at E3? We didn't learn anything new, really, but we got the cool nightclub fight trailer embedded above. For more, see our interview from when Sifu was announced earlier this year—it sounds really cool.
Is it coming to PC? You know it
Silt
What is it? A spooky deep-sea diving adventure
When's it out? Early 2022
What did we see at E3? That you play a diver who can possess fish to solve environmental puzzles. That ability might not be much help against the bizarre creatures of the ocean's depths. We see leviathans with gigantic mouths, leechy things that latch onto your face, snapping flytrap-esque plants, and what's up with that tree?
Is it coming to PC? Steam
Slime Rancher 2
What is it? An adorable slime-collecting sim
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? A cute trailer showcasing an entirely new world with a bunch of new squishy slimes. Bunny slimes, bat slimes, angler fish slimes... so many slimes. Like in the first game, players will have the ability to suck up these adorable creatures into their packs and then project them into holding pens.
Is it coming to PC? Yes
Solar Ash
What is it? A stylish platforming adventure from Heart Machine, the studio behind Hyper Light Drifter
When's it out? Later this year
What did we see at E3? A short gameplay clip, just a minute long, of the protagonist leaping onto the back of a winged monster, then skating across its wings and back to jab it with needly nodes before finishing with a kick.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, it's coming to the Epic Games Store
Somerville
What is it? An indie adventure set during an alien apocalypse
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? A short moody trailer looking at the events of the game including desolate landscapes, alien monoliths, and a family trying and survive.
Is it coming to PC? Coming to PC and Xbox consoles
Songs of Conquest
What is it? A strategy RPG in the vein of the early Heroes of Might & Magic games
When's it out? Early 2022
What did we see at E3? A pixel-art strategy game where cities are built, heroes march across an overworld map, and armies clash on hexgrids. Songs of Conquest will have a story campaign that's playable solo or multiplayer, with warring factions like the necromancers of Loth and the swamp tribes of Rana, as well as an in-game editor for making your own campaigns.
Is it coming to PC? Sure is. Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store
Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl
What is it? A post-apocalyptic horror FPS, and sequel to the first game that came out over 12 years ago
When's it out? April 28, 2022
What did we see at E3? A new trailer with both cinematic sequences and gameplay. There's not a lot to go on, but there's plenty of banter between fellow fireside campers which shows the game's humorous streak, lots of industrial shootouts, and a look at a bloodsucker, and an interesting piece of new hardware. A bit too much shooting for Stalker honestly.
Is it coming to PC? Yep, and Xbox Games Pass at launch
Starfield
What is it? The next big RPG from Bethesda, in spaaaace
When's it out? November 11, 2022
What did we see at E3? An honest-to-goodness release date. The trailer didn't tell us much, but Todd Howard's been talking and that's how we know Starfield will have various factions to join: "It's kind of like Skyrim in terms of the structure of the game, where you're going to be who you want to be, and then there's different factions that you can join, and really carve your own path."
Is it coming to PC? Between Microsoft and Bethesda, they can probably figure out a Windows release
Tales of Arise
What is it? The 17th game in the 'Tales of...' JRPG series
When's it out? September 10
What did we see at E3? Another look at Bandai Namco's delayed JRPG, introducing two new party members. Dohalim carries a staff to whack enemies while explaining how much he cares about peace, while Kisara seems like a tanky sort who summons a magic shield with a wave of her arm.
Is it coming to PC? Says "PC digital" in that trailer. What's this? Why, it's a Steam page
They Always Run
What is it? A stylish 2D platformer
When's it out? TBA 2021
What did we see at E3? A trailer at the PC Gaming Show which features a lot of expressive little animations—looks neat!
Is it coming to PC? Absolutely, on Steam
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
What is it? A Borderlands spin-off starring Tiny Tina
When’s it out? Early 2022
What did we see at E3? The official announcement trailer embedded above, which in addition to setting the fantasy tone, also confirms that Ashly Burch will return to voice Tiny Tina, with other voice talent including Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, and Will Arnett. Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford: "For me, bringing actual Borderlands guns to fight dragons, skeletons, goblins, and more in an original fantasy world imagined by the galaxy's deadliest 13-year-old, Tiny Tina, as a new, full-featured triple-A videogame is a dream come true." It's got shooting and looting and sounds effectively like a Borderlands game, only this one will be full of “whimsy” and “wonder.”
Is it coming to PC? Yep, on both Steam and the Epic Games Store
Two Point Campus
What is it? It’s a zany college management sim from the creators of the excellent Two Point Hospital
When’s it out? Some time in 2022
What did we see at E3? The trailer embedded above, which sets a tone similar to Two Point Hospital. Sure, this is a complex and engaging sim but it’s not exactly realistic: As Jorge pointed out, you can choose to open a knight school, or you can get them to specialise in baking ginormous pies.
Is it coming to PC? It already has a Steam page
Valorant: new character teaser
What is it? A new robotic agent confirmed for Riot’s brilliant tactical shooter… or is it? It was just an ever-so-fleeting teaser shown during the Summer Games Fest
When’s it out? No idea, but it’s Valorant’s first birthday this month, which seems like as good a time than any to issue a new agent
What did we see at E3? A three second clip of a half-built robot. It was slim.
Is it coming to PC? Valorant is PC only
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt
What is it? Putting the bat in battle royale, Bloodhunt shares the World of Darkness setting with classic RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
When's it out? This year
What did we see at E3? A trailer showing customizable undead using guns, blades, and vampire powers against each other on the streets of Prague. The whole point of the Masquerade is keeping the existence of vampires secret, but apparently in Prague they throw that out the window in favor of open war with bullets, katanas, and ground-pounds. Andy Kelly played a preview and says it's actually pretty fun.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, free-to-play, with a closed alpha beginning July 2
Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong
What is it? A new World of Darkness RPG from The Council studio Big Bad Wolf, Swansong follows the story of a new Camarilla Prince attempting to assert control over Boston, and other vampire who may have different ideas.
When's it out? Later in 2021
What did we see at E3? The E3 2021 trailer offers insights into the Malkavian vampire Leysha, whose rage boils over as she tracks down those responsible for taking her child. It's weird, yes—but she is Malkavian, after all.
Is it coming to PC? Yes, on the Epic Games Store.
Watch Dogs: Legion – Bloodline
What is it? Story DLC for Watch Dogs: Legion
When's it out? July 6
What did we see at E3? Remember how the big selling point of Watch Dogs: Legion was its playable characters all being randomly generated "it could be you" types? Bloodline ditches that to bring back characters from the previous games, casting you as Aiden Pearce, the first game's protagonist.
Is it coming to PC? It's part of the Season Pass
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
What is it? Turn-based tactics, a successor of sorts to 1998's Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? A teaser showing that we'll be playing the Grey Knights, the psychic warriors of Chapter 666 who battle Chaos on behalf of the Inquisition. If the buzzing flies weren't enough of a clue, the shambling poxwalkers at the end suggest that those enemies will be the daemons of Nurgle, Warhammer's grotesque plague god. We'll find out more when the cinematic trailer comes in August.
Is it coming to PC? By the God-Emperor, yes
WarTales
What is it? A turn-based strategy game from the makers of Northgard
When's it out? Enters Early Access this year
What did we see at E3? A gritty mercenary epic about managing a mercenary company in a plague-raved world. Each of the randomly generated mercs you recruit has their own RPG progression of abilities, and the group has to be fed and paid as you march them across the kingdoms. The main enemies seem to be outlaws and wolves, yet there's some kind of gigantic worm-like creature seen burrowing in the distance, which hints that WarTales' take on fantasy might get a bit less low-key as it goes on.
Is it coming to PC? Steam
Wizard With A Gun
What is it? A wizard with a gun
When's it out? 2022
What did we see at E3? A wizard with a gun
Is it coming to PC? Yes, with a gun
